Black Dawn by Rachel Caine
Morganville Vampires series. Razorbill, 2012. ISBN-978-1-921880-14-8.
Black Dawn by Rachel Caine is a brilliantly ensnaring novel
that keeps you reading until the very last page. This book is a
follow on from her eleventh book in the Morganville series, Last
Breath.
Like her latest installments to the series Rachel has put this book
in a multi-view point perception, from not just the main character
(Claire Danvers) but from many other very important characters in
the plot. This a great challenge not just for the writer but for the
flowing of the story and it takes skill to write from more than one
perspective.
The main characters in Black Dawn are Claire Danvers and her good
friends, Shane Collins, Eve Rosser, Michael Glass (Youngest
Vampire), Myrnin (Vampire mad scientist), Oliver (Hippie vampire
commando) and Amelie (founder of Morganville and also Queen Vampire
herself). The potential threat is a nostalgic monster made entirely
up out of liquid called the Draug, the Leader of these disgusting
creatures is called Magnus, Draug creator and Master. The draug are
the vampires top-most predator and now that they have infected
Amelie herself they have the upper hand but Claire and Myrnin have
many plots and plans to save her and Morganville. In this novel
these characters attempt to rid their lives of these threatening
Draug and attempt to put an end to them, once and for all.
With many twists in this ever addictive plot I guarantee it will
keep almost any reader hooked.
